There’s nothing quite like the holiday season and the joy it brings. After an especially challenging and heartbreaking year, I’ve found myself re-evaluating what the holiday season means to me and the role  consumerism plays during this time. However, I know gifts are an essential way for families and friends to show love and appreciation, so I put together this guide of gifts and brands that give back. GIFTS THAT GIVE BACK

Below are gifts that give back a percentage of proceeds to charitable organizations.

POWER LUNCH PUZZLE – This ode to the working woman 1,000 piece puzzle by Piecework donates 10% of its profits (until the end of 2020) to the National Women’s Law Center.

HEY DEWY HUMIDIFIER – 10% of sales of this mini, portable humidifier will be donated to The Water Project, a non-profit organization providing reliable water project to communities in Africa.

CHARITYBANDS BY MANTRABAND – CharityBands is a line of bracelets that support different charities. Each sale means a $5 donation to the support charity.

DACHSHUND CHRISTMAS TEE – This dachshund tee by Bean Goods donates 10% of all profits from the tees to Sophia’s Grace Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of Dachshunds in need.

EVERLANE – Everlane is a clothing company that provides quality pieces made ethically. The company donates 10% of every purchase from their 100% Human Collection to the ACLU’s efforts to defend human rights. Everlane has donated over $1 million to date.

CUYANA – Cuyana is a brand for the modern women with a focus on “Fewer, Better Things.” The women founded brand is partnering with thredUP to send out free shipping labels with every online or in store order. Use the label to donate items from your closet and earn Cuyana credit when doing so. When you spend your Cuyana shopping credit, 5% of the profits will be donated to H.E.A.R.T. (Helping Erase Abuse Related Trauma). Check for more information here.

THE TOTE PROJECT – The Tote Project was founded to empower survivors of human trafficking around the world. The products sold are ethically made by survivors of human trafficking and women who are at risk. In addition, 10% of proceeds are donated to Two Wings, a non-profit organization that empowers survivors of sex trafficking and those at risk to pursue their dreams.

THINX – Thinx provides period underwear as an alternative to pads. Their giveback program advocates for equity, educates future generations, and provides access to safe menstrual hygiene products. Purchases allows Thinx to continue making these initiatives that help girls around the world. The hiphuggers are my favorite for that time of the month.

WARBY PARKER – Warby Parker is an eyewear company with a “Buy a Pair, Give a Pair” program that gives the gift of sight and vision care to those in need. Over 7 million pairs of glasses have been distributed through their program. During the pandemic, for the majority of glasses purchased, Warby Parker is distributing PPE and preventative health supplies to healthcare workers and communities in need.

AURATE – Aurate is a fine jewelry brand made with ethics. For every piece of gold purchased, Aurate donates a book in your name to support and empower developing literacy across the nation.

BOMBAS – Bombas makes quality, comfortable socks and t-shirts. For every item purchased, Bombas donates an item on your behalf. They’ve donated more than 40 million items to more than 2,500 organizations. Learn more about their program here.

PATAGONIA – Patagonia is a conscious clothing company that fights against fast fashion manufacturing and demands better practices. The outdoor clothing company has donated $89 million to grassroots environmental groups and invests in socially and environmentally minded companies.

THE GIVING KEYS – The Giving Keys makes hand stamped jewelry with inspirational words that are meant to be passed on to someone you feel needs the message more than you do. The pay it forward company also employs people transitioning out of homelessness.

HOME GOODS

PARACHUTE – Parachute is a home goods brand popular for their bedding. The company partners with the United Nation’s Nothing But Nets campaign to send life saving malaria prevention bed nets to those in need. For every bedding set sold, one bed net is donated.

BEAUTY

TATCHA –  Tatcha is Asian female owned beauty brand that is inspired by Japanese beauty. Products are clean, cruelty free, and made of fewer, better ingredients. Every purchase you make supports female students around the world through Tatcha’s “Beautiful Faces, Beautiful Futures” program. The program supports female equality and empowerment through education. Due to the pandemic, Tatcha is expanding their program to underserved children in the United States. KIDS

YOOBI – Yoobi is a school supply company with a vision to provide all kids the tools they need to learn and be creative. For every Yoobi item purchased, the company donates a school supply item to a child in need.

CUDDLE AND KIND – Cuddle and Kind makes handcrafted, quality dolls that provides a sustainable, fair trade income for women in Peru. A purchase of 1 doll provides 10 meals to hungry children through The United Nations Food Program, Children’s Hunger Fund, orphanages in Haiti, and more. PETS

CHEWY – Chewy is a popular online pet retailer. In partnership with the Humane Society, Chewy is donating and distributing $1 million in pet food and supplies to pet parents in underserved and impoverished areas during the pandemic. Since 2012, Chewy has donated more than $62 million in pet products to provide shelter and rescue animals the quality care they deserve. You can also search for a shelter or rescue local to you and donate products from their Chewy Wish List.

DOG THREADS – Dog Threads is a family owned business that make matching outfits for humans and their fur babies. The small business donates 2% of every sale to non-profit animal rescues.

WILD ONE – Wild One is a company that creates thoughtful and functional pet essentials. The dog company contributes a portion of their proceeds from every purchase to sponsor the rescue of a pet every week in partnership with Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue.
