I’m back with the scoop on SPF! If you haven’t already done so, read parts one and two to learn more about what types of sunscreen effectively protect you from harmful UV rays. Today, I’ll show you how you can start incorporating SPF into your daily routine. There are different sunscreen products you’ll need based on the way you choose to layer your SPF with the rest of your beauty and makeup routine. Everything I’m recommending will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays.

body sunscreen

mineral

My favorite mineral body sunscreen is the Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Sunscreen. I used it every day in Hawaii and never got sun burnt. If you rub it in well enough, there is no white residue. Tim, on the other hand, used the Sun Bum Mineral Sunscreen and was either a ghoul or burnt majority of the trip. Next, I really want to try out Farmacy’s Green Screen Sunscreen.

chemical

Chemical sunscreens are an easy choice for daily use. Before I knew about mineral sunscreen, Clinique Body Cream was my favorite because it’s like body lotion. I also love all Supergoop products, like their Everyday Sunscreen and Sunscreen Mousse. Don’t forget about protecting your hands with their Forever Young Hand Cream.

Supergoop 100% Mineral Sunscreen Mist and Beauty Counter Mineral Sunscreen Lotion are the only two true mineral sunscreens (without any active chemical ingredients) I’ve come across that are water resistant. I haven’t tried them, but I love anything Supergoop and have heard good things about Beauty Counter.

chemical

There are tons of options for water resistant chemical sunscreens. My mom’s favorite is the  Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion, which she has been loyal to for probably the last 15 years. I teamed up with Neutrogena earlier this summer to promote their Hydro Boost Gel Sunscreen and absolutely loved the lightweight gel texture that makes it so easy to apply and re-apply.

Use these after your moisturizer and before your makeup.

I haven’t tried a ton of mineral face products, but I do love Coola’s Daydream Mineral Primer. The texture is dreamy and it glides on effortlessly. This bareMinerals Prep Step Sun Cream seems like a great primer too.

chemical

I absolutely love Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen. It’s so easy to apply everyday and serves as a great primer. For under my eyes, I love Supergoop’s Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream Sunscreen. It’s so innovative and I love that there’s a specific product to help combat and prevent more wrinkles in a targeted area. Here are a few other products that I’m interested in trying next: Tatcha Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen and Korres Yoghurt Nourishing Face Sunscreen.

sunscreen as makeup

mineral

I haven’t worn makeup since June you guys! Instead, I’ve been using Supergoop’s 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen. I love that it combines sunscreen and makeup into one super easy step. I apply it with my hands and it takes less than one minute. I’d love to try their CC Cream Daily Correct Sunscreen and Peter Thomas Roth’s Skin to Die For™ Mineral-Matte CC Cream next.

chemical

My go to face makeup is Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. There are so many foundations out there with SPF in it, and since makeup is not my forte, I don’t feel comfortable giving out many recommendations at this point. Definitely something I can work on!

sunscreen over makeup

Let’s say you went through your beauty and makeup routine, only to find out that you forgot SPF. Don’t worry – it’s not too late! There are sunscreen products you can use over your makeup too.

mineral

I personally don’t have any mineral setting sprays or powders, but I’m dying to try this Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral Powder.

chemical

As for chemical SPF products, I have Supergoop’s Defense Refresh Setting Mist. It’s really refreshing and smells so good. Their Glow Stick Sunscreen is a really fun product to add a bit of highlight. I’ve also heard good things about Kate Somerville’s UncompliKated Makeup Setting Spray.
